Anacortes International Art Festival

Anacortes International Art Festival

The Anacortes International Art Festival was this weekend from Friday to Sunday (today).  There were hundreds of booths, but I found only four that were from Washington artists.  The rest were from the east coast and there were a few from Oregon, even more than Washington.  People from Washington are mostly friendly and nice people.  The artists at the festival were not.  They were rude to buyers in their booths and insulted them when they asked questions.  Particularly offensive was an old guy from New York who was yelling at any buyer in his booth with a cell phone (paranoid about photos) while flirting with a teenager young enough to be his great grandchild.  Ew.  I mention him because if anyone from the festival committee is reading this, DON’T let him come back.  You’re ruining your own festival.

Here were the highlights.  We were there for less than two hours, long enough to take in every booth and leave.  Anacortes is beautiful, but the artistry represented was not.  There was a lot of clunk and junk and cheap photography.

Jason Napier’s brass sculptures were by far the crowd favorite (and mine) at the festival.  He says he casts these from bronze and then finishes them off with a special patina.  They are beautiful.  Photos do not do them justice.  They were also very affordable, the largest piece less than $2,000.  I’m in love with these three pieces.

Photography on Fiberglass

There were six vendors with photography on fiberglass, massive pieces that would be much too heavy to put on my wall, but were gorgeous nonetheless.
