Farmers Day Parade

Farmers Day Parade

On Saturday I had a choice between attending the Scottish Highland Games in Ferndale or the Farmer’s Day Parade in Lynden.  The last two events I went to in Ferndale were so tiny it was over in less than 10 minutes.  So this time I chose Lynden’s Farmer’s Day Parade.  I chose badly.  🙁

There were some pretty strange floats.  I guess any chance for kids to get free candy tossed from the floats is a good time, but why was there an Army jeep, a casket pulled by a horse and wagon, and a float honoring migrant workers (especially when unemployment among local residents is so high)???  There were a ton of unicyclers and bands.  I didn’t know such a tiny town could have so many bands.  I’ve always wanted to attend a small-town parade like you see in the movies.  This was not it.
